(4 cases) 2012-13 Panini Prestige Basketball Hobby 12 Box Case

Due to release on Friday, September 14th, I am eagerly awaiting this product. This years Prestige NBA is back after a years hiatus, and promises the following:

  • 3 autographs & 1 memorabilia per box
  • 100 RC cards in the base set – RC’s will be 1 per pack or 24 per box (288 per case), so they will be Short Printed (SP)
  • While SP’ing the RC’s will create large piles of leftover star/veteran base cards which I will have a hard time selling, I still like the fact that Prestige has SP rookies, and the serial numbered parallels (bonus shots) just add to the  rookie fever

I am currently preselling base sets 1-250 on eBay. These sets will contain approximately 125 stars/veterans, 25 legends and 100 rookies.

(4 cases) 2012-13 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball Hobby 20 Box Case

Everything will be for sale on my eBay store over the next week. Sets are in Buy It Now. I will post more information about the product soon, but it’s safe to say this is going to be a very successful break for me. The market is PRIMED for new NBA Rookies, and this product is absolultely loaded with rookies.

UPDATE 08/20/2012, 7:30AM: I underestimated how long it would take to open and sort 4 cases of this product. Sets sold very well, in fact I sold all the sets I will be able to build from 4 cases, and it’s going to take 2-3 more days that I expected to pack them up and ship them out. Next time I need to be more aware of those product that have 36 packs per box, that is really the part that slows everything down, opening all the packs. I have to message all the customers and tell them about the delay. Some will not be happy, and my eBay feedback might suffer from it. That is a lesson to be learned. You can’t underestimate how long it takes to open/sort/ship on a product like this.

UPDATE 08/29/2012:

The bulk of the cards are sold, just some remaining sets and lots left to sell. The value coming out of the 4 cases is right around the MAPP price. 4 cases at MAPP price is $5440, and gross sales are already at $5300 with several sets/lots left to sell. Below are some observations about the product:

  • Base card collation is very poor. I’m left over with a couple thousand extra base cards. In 4 cases, some base cards pulled at qty 75-80, others only at qty 55-60. Collation of the inserts, however, was fantastic, I was able to build 6-10 of all the insert sets with minimal extras.
  • Out of 4 cases, I was only shorted 2 auto’s, those boxes came from the same case, and this was the same case that had some of the worst collation which really screwed the whole pooch.
  • The quality control is decent, I’ve seen Panini do better. There were minor dings on many of the cards. And the first case I opened had bad chipping on all of the auto’s bottom edge.
  • In 4 cases, I did not pull any 1/1′s, no buyback auto’s.
  • The Artist Proof parallels pull at 1 per box.
  • The Glossy parallels pull at 6 per box.
  • The Kobe’s All Rookie Team SP inserts pull at 1-2 per case.
  • The Miami Chamions SP cards pull at 2-3 per case.

July 2012 Update

I’ve stopped posting breaks on this website, but I’m still busting new products and selling them on my eBay store: http://stores.ebay.com/alexlazarevich-aka-cardboardaddict.

I am working on updating this website, so I can sell cases/boxes of new products for lower than eBay prices. I will accept PayPal goods and credit cards, so buyers are protected. But I will be able to avoid eBay fees, and thus sell for ~12% less than I would be able on eBay.

Thanks for the interest! Any questions email me at cardboardaddict@gmail.com.
